Amid Shortage, Philadelphia Cream Cheese Suggests Cheesecake Alternatives

Perhaps you’ve heard: The United States is in the midst of a cream cheese shortage. The good people at Philadelphia Cream Cheese want the world to know they’re working on the situation.

“We are shipping 35% more product to foodservice partners over one year ago, and our factories are running at full capacity,” said Philadelphia Marketing Director Basak Oguz. “As we continue to see elevated and sustained demand, we want to ensure that there’s enough cream cheese for bagels, cheesecakes, and everything in-between. We’re investing millions of dollars so Philadelphia cream cheese will be available to anyone that wants it, wherever they like to shop.”

However, nothing in life is guaranteed, which means it’s possible some consumers will be without their cheesecake for the holidays. In such cases, Philadelphia is looking to make good on the shortage by offering to pay for consumers’ non-cream cheese-based desserts.

“Baking cheesecake is a holiday tradition that many families look forward to, and at Philadelphia, we believe that these moments of delight really matter,” Oguz said. “So, if cheesecake is on fewer holiday tables this year, we want to make sure that consumers still get that holiday feeling, even if it’s through other desserts.”

On December 17 and 18, Philadelphia will reimburse the cost of any dessert – cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. – up to $20. The company is only offering a limited number of awards, so consumers will have to register SpreadTheFeeling.com to reserve a spot.

A video created for the promo shows a nearly empty shelf with only a few boxes of Philadelphia cream cheese left. “This is not an empty shelf,” explains a voiceover. “It’s a holiday tradition waiting another year.” The video goes on to explain the details of the promotion, suggesting the famous cheesecakes can be turned into famous brownies, cookies or cupcakes. The video concludes with the line, “If you can’t spread Philly, spread the feeling.”
