Yesenia Acosta

Chief, Coordination, Dissemination, and Outreach Branch, Population Division, U.S. Census Bureau

Yesenia Acosta is chief of the Population Division’s Coordination, Dissemination, and Outreach Branch, where she coordinates production, data intake, dissemination, and outreach activities across the estimates and projections area. She also coordinates the activities of the Federal State Cooperative for Population Estimates (FSCPE) and keeps FSCPE state members informed on Census Bureau plans and activities. Throughout her tenure, she has represented the Census Bureau on U.S. demographic trends during interviews with English- and Spanish-language television, radio and print media outlets.

Yesenia began her career at the Census Bureau in 2010 as a demographer statistician in the Population Division’s Local Government Estimates and Migration Processing Branch. She later joined the Foreign-Born Population Branch, where she authored numerous papers on the characteristics of the foreign-born population living in the United States and presented her research findings at professional meetings and academic conferences. In 2017, Yesenia became section chief for Content and Forms Design in the Decennial Census Management Division, where she directed the creation of approximately 275 respondent-facing paper materials for the 2018 Census Test and the 2020 Census. She returned to the Population Division in 2018.

Yesenia received a master’s degree in demography from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology, political science, and social science from Florida State University. She earned a certificate in international migration studies from Georgetown University and a master’s certificate in project management from George Washington University. She is a graduate of the Performance Improvement Council’s Performance Ambassador Program, part of the President’s Office of Executive Councils. She is also a graduate of the Excellence in Government Fellows program.
