Born and raised in Los Angeles to a Japanese mother and a Danish father, Sophia grew up traveling and embracing the world’s beauty. From a young age, her travels influenced her strong interest in social issues and global inequality. In 2014, Sophia completed a B.A. in International Development and Global Studies while working on a UCLA-sponsored original research project to explore the international aid response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. At that time, she also served as Student Director of the UC Haiti Initiative, a global partnership to develop the public education sector in Haiti. After her studies, Sophia searched for an opportunity to combine all of her passions: travel, tourism, hospitality, sustainability, and community development. In 2015, she began working for Club Med, with assignments in Mexico, France, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Guadeloupe, and now, Miami. In 2019, she was promoted as one of the company’s youngest ever Resort General Managers before transitioning to her new role as PR & CSR Manager for Club Med North America and the Caribbean in September 2021. Today, her main responsibility is to advance the deployment of Club Med’s sustainability program, “Happy To Care”, as well as increase the brand communication related to these commitments.
