Dennis Potgraven

Chief Strategy Officer, Wavemaker US

Dennis is overseeing strategy development for Wavemaker in the United States. He leads the strategy and planning communities for local and global US based accounts. He is responsible for activating Wavemaker’s Provocative Planning and thought leadership in the US. His strategy and planning remit includes the Wavemaker e-commerce practice.


Prior to Wavemaker, Dennis worked as CSO for Havas, leading its strategy practice in Greater China where he contributed to the fast pace growth of its integrated operation in the region. Following Havas’ Together strategy, the team he set up worked for both creative and media clients. Within his 8 years at Havas, he started at the Amsterdam office, and was transferred to Hong Kong and Shanghai subsequently.


Before his agency career, he spent around 15 years at advertisers. In both senior business and functional roles, he was responsible for marketing, marcom and media at management level. He worked for several CPG and retail companies including Nestlé, Friesland Campina and Ahold Delhaize where he built a successful track record of establishing brands and marcom transformation. Over the years he worked on clients like Danone, KIA, LG, KLM, Reckitt Benckiser, Coty, AXA, Emirates, Peugeot, Danone, Citroen, Disney, TDA, Hershey’s, Remy, Tsingtao, Cointreau, Moen, Visit California, Swarovski, Tyson, PUMA, IKEA and Hermes. He developed research and publications on the Fast-Developing Brand Landscape in China, the influence of E-commerce on branding, the Future of O20 Retail, Chinese Post 90s, China as forerunner in digital and retail and other topics. His work has been featured in in the leading industry media outlets and he has become a welcomed speaker at international industry conferences.

As a strategist he is passionate about driving breakthrough marketing campaigns (focused on digital & owned media) and driving growth by energizing brands. He is fact based with a creative mind and has an International experience in various markets in Europe and Asia, and currently the US. Dennis graduated in Business Economics, International Marketing Management and effected post graduate programs at London Business School (UK) and Neyenrode Business University (NL).
