Zendaya Sells the ‘Smart’ Aspects of Hydration

Perhaps all of that time playing Chani (of the inhospitable desert planet Arrakis) left an impact on the importance of hydration for Zendaya.

The film and TV start has signed on as the face of smartwater, the bottled water brand from The Coca-Cola company. In her role as Brand Ambassador, Zendaya will appear in marketing pieces and be the face of an effort to ensure more people around the world have access to potable water.

Beginning this summer, Zendaya will appear in a campaign that celebrates people who are defining “smart” on their own terms and take steps to free themselves from the restraints of convention. One video depicts Zendaya helping others artists (such as a fashion designer and a film director) solve their problems by simply observing the work and taking a drink of water. The campaign will first appear in the U.S. on television, audio, social and streaming channels and will roll into global markets later in the year.

In addition, Zendaya and smartwater are partnering with Global Water Challenge (GWC) to support community water quality and access improvements in cities around the world, beginning with Zendaya’s hometown of Oakland, California. GWC is a coalition of organizations collaborating to provide universal access to clean drinking water.

“I’m very excited to begin this new relationship with smartwater,” said Zendaya in a release. “We all know how important it is to stay hydrated and smartwater is my go-to source no matter what I am doing throughout the day.”

The “smart solutions: global water challenge” will invite local organizations to apply for grant funding through GWC’s women for water platform, which aims to improve women’s lives through clean water access.
