Verizon Enlists NFL Legends to Promote Super Bowl Sweepstakes

Even retired gridiron greats feel the draw of attending the Super Bowl. In a bid to promote Verizon’s sweepstakes offering 20 winners tickets to three consecutive Super Bowls (beginning in 2024), NFL legends including Mark Sanchez, Reggie Bush and Emmanuel Sanders are making their pitch to be the winners’ plus-ones.

The first to make his case is Eli Manning, who has been appearing in a video on Verizon’s social channels. In the video, Manning recounts his career stats (including 411 sacks, which he’d rather not talk about), “But if I’m being honest, I miss the thrill of winning,” Manning says as he walks on the field one more time. “So, I’m going back to where legends are made.”

The video cuts to Manning in front of a white board, explaining that he’s taking a “short cut” by using Verizon’s promo to get back to the game. “Every winner gets two tickets, so someone’s going to need a plus one,” he says. “And I know just the guy.” To sweeten the deal, he offers to coach the winning family’s little league football team.

“As a longstanding partner of the NFL, our strong relationships across the organization allow us to connect with football fans in a meaningful way,” said Kristin McHugh,  Verizon’s SVP of marketing and activation. “Teaming up with league legends like Eli Manning who truly understand how Verizon elevates the overall football experience as a player, team, and now viewer, helps us drive excitement among consumers and authentically communicate the value that the brand delivers to fans.”

Verizon announced its Super Bowl sweepstakes earlier this month as a promo for its new “Welcome Unlimited” plan, which enables consumers to lock in a $25 per line, per month plan (for up to four lines) for three years. To bring home the three-year theme, the telecom is giving away 20 pairs of tickets to Super Bowls LVIII, LIX and LX (occurring in 2024, 2025 and 2026). “Lucky fans might even have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite players when they stop by their local Verizon store to enter,” McHugh said.
