From Twitter to Zillow: Beverly Jackson’s Purpose Driven Marketing Journey

Veteran marketer Beverly Jackson knows the ins and outs of career building, both as a hiring executive and as a marketer looking for the next exciting role. She recently left Twitter to join Zillow and she talks about this process in the first episode of The Brief with David Teicher, a new Brand Innovators’ video series.

Even before the Musk acquisition and leadership shakeup, Jackson had already begun to crave more than her role at Twitter and was thinking about her new role. With experience working on Super Bowl ads, marketing leadership experience at Activision Blizzard, MGM Resorts, Yahoo and the Recording Academy, she was often approached by brands sliding into her LinkedIn DMs or calling her up to talk about her goals.

When layoffs hit the social network, she began to consider what was next. It was important to her to find a company with the right people.“It’s not just about the work, it’s also about the people and the journey that the people go through and the experience,” Jackson told Brand Innovators. “Some of the brands in our business have such strong personalities themselves that it overshadows the people. I want to put the spotlight back on the people and that means being vulnerable, being open, being candid. Not everybody’s comfortable doing that.”

Jackson joined Zillow in January as VP brand & product marketing where she is on a mission to help the brand harness their vast data resources to inform their marketing strategies and drive business growth.

“Zillow is a beloved brand,” she said. “It is the brand that people lean into when they’re dreaming about what’s possible. Even in their darkest days, what’s possible, right? There’s something really gut-wrenching and it sort of grabs you by the heart on that one.”

In the interview, Jackson also opens up about bad job interviews, the importance of pay equity and shares what she is up to at Zillow.
