Amazon Offers Prime Customers Free Grubhub+

Amazon Offers Prime Customers Free Grubhub+

Throughout that COVID-19 pandemic, consumers became more accustomed to – and more confident in – home delivery for nearly everything they could think of. Even with restrictions easing, home delivery is here to stay, which is why it makes sense that two of the biggest names in providing doorstep products are teaming up.

Beginning this week, Amazon Prime members can signup for Grubhub’s premium product, Grubhub+, at no extra charge, providing customers with unlimited $0 delivery fees from restaurants in their areas. “Much like Amazon, Grubhub has transformed people’s lives by providing them unprecedented choice and convenience,” said Ariella Kurshan, senior vice president and head of growth at Grubhub. “T this is an incredible opportunity to bring Grubhub+ to the millions of Prime members who are accustomed to fast and FREE delivery on the things they want the most – which now includes meals from their favorite restaurants.”

The new offering comes in advance of Amazon’s heavily hyped “Prime Day,” which offers Prime members access to deals on hundreds of products over an XX-hour period. Kurshan said the timing was intentional. “With Prime Day on everyone’s mind, this was a great time to delight Prime members with

an offer that lets them get even more delivered to their door,” she said, adding that the promotion itself is available to Prime members all year and not only during the Prime Day period.

“Being able to give Prime members one year of Grubhub+ and no delivery fees from restaurants is our way of saying ‘thank you’,” said Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime in a statement. “The value of a Prime membership continues to grow with this offer, and this year is shaping up to be a great time to enjoy the convenience, savings, fun — and deliciousness — that membership provides.”

In addition to the $0 delivery perk, the promotion also gives Prime members access to Grubhub+ perks and rewards, including a donation match through its Donate the Change program. Current Prime members will have to activate the Grubhub+ promotion through their Amazon accounts. Once they do, they will get one year of free Grubhub+ membership. After that year, the customers will be charged the regular Grubhub+ subscription rates.

As part of the partnership, Amazon has reportedly acquired a 2% stake in Grubhub’s parent, Just Eat Takeaway.
